The centerpiece of our backyard was an old apple tree. When we came to live here years ago, he (or is an apple tree a ‘she’..?)was already old and estimated on 60 years of age. The thick branches reached across the whole garden and gave lots of shade in the summer. “what if this tree is ever going the disappear, wat will we do..?” I often thought. The tree gave us heaps of apples every other year. It’s too bad that also the life of a tree has to end and some years back branches began to fall down. Last year’s winter did it, the tree had died. We sawed all of the branches off the tree, except one, that could stay. Now we didn’t have to say goodbye to it yet.
Last spring we planted a new apple tree, two meters behind it’s big brother. This spring it carries blossom for the first time, beautiful! Hopefully it can grow here as long as its predecessor and will give as much apples too!
